Lean Improvement Practitioner

Level 4
Apprenticeship

Learning &
Transferable Thinking

Completed a year long Lean Improvement Practicioner (Green Belt equivalent) apprenticeship through work. The programme focused on developing skills to analyse workflows, remove inefficiencies, and deliver measurable improvements:

  • Gathering and analysing data

  • Identifying points of friction in systems and processes

  • Testing and iterating solutions through small experiments

  • Using user feedback to guide decisions

Project

As part of the apprenticeship I delivered a complete improvement project at my workplace, BCA.

The project focused on standardising and improving the identification and security procedures of high-value vehicles across a large automotive storage and logistics site.

Using the DMAIC framework, I led the project from problem definition through to implementation, validation, and control planning.

Key elements of the project included:

  • Data-driven analysis of theft trends

  • Process mapping and waste identification (TIMWOODS)

  • Root cause analysis (5 Whys, Fishbone)

  • Stakeholder engagement across operations, security, and IT

  • Experimentation and pilot testing

  • Design of sustainable controls for future rollout

Key Skills

Project Delivery & Stakeholder Coordination

Able to structure and lead improvement projects, working across multiple stakeholders and taking ownership from problem definition through to delivery.

Experimentation & Iteration

Able to test ideas, gather feedback, and iterate quickly.

Data Analysis and Prioritisation

Able to use data analysis and prioritisation techniques (Pareto, trend analysis) to focus improvements on the highest-impact areas.

Outcome &
Recognition

The project was delivered successfully in a live operational environment, and demonstrated measurable risk reduction and process improvement, as signed off by the Head of Security.

  • Final grade: Distinction

  • Nominated for Learner of the Year by course tutor
